NEW DELHI: Indian captain Rohit Sharma provided a significant update regarding the participation of opening batsman Shubman Gill in the highly anticipated match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, scheduled for Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Gill, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, also took part in the practice session on the eve of the match.During the pre-match press conference, Rohit was asked about Gill’s potential inclusion in the lineup against Pakistan, and he responded by saying, “There’s a 99 percent chance he (Gill) will play.We’ll make the final call tomorrow (Saturday).”
Gill had been in Chennai for medical treatment, which prevented him from participating in India’s first two matches of the tournament against Australia and Afghanistan.
Due to the illness, Gill was hospitalized but batting coach Vikram Rathour said, “He was hospitalized, yes, but that was more as a precaution.”
