Leicester City forward scores hat-trick in League Two trial ahead of potential summer exit

Promising Leicester City talent Tawanda Maswanhise scored a hat-trick for Stockport County’s B team as he checks out his options ahead of a potential summer exit.

The forward, who made his senior City debut at the start of the year, is on trial with the League Two winners and made a big impression on Tuesday night when he netted three goals in a reserve-team friendly against Brentford B. Praised for his acceleration and cool finishing, the 21-year-old opened the scoring in the second minute and then completed his hat-trick in added time to earn a 3-3 draw.

It’s understood that Maswanhise’s contract at City expires this summer and that he is considering his options ahead of a potential move. It’s not yet confirmed that City won’t be offering him a new deal.

One of the most exciting talents in the club’s Under-21s over the past few years, Maswanhise first caught the eye playing for the first team in pre-season three years ago, when his fearless dribbling off the left wing made him stand out, even alongside senior stars. Since then, he’s been a regular for the development squad and finished as their top scorer last season.

On the bench for a few games under Brendan Rodgers, Maswanhise was finally handed his senior debut by Enzo Maresca in January this year, coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup win over Millwall. He was one of six academy graduates to play in the game, alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hamza Choudhury, Ben Nelson, Jakub Stolarczyk, and Wanya Marcal.
