Scott Fisher, the 29-year-old man accused of killing girlfriend Kimberly Wong in November, appeared in court at the San Francisco Hall of Justice on Wednesday morning.

As Fisher sat with Meenha Lee, the public defender representing him, Judge Victor Hwang determined his preliminary hearing will be delayed. Also in the courtroom were Wong’s family and friends.

Lee told SFGATE she requested an extension because she needs more time to work on the case. Though Hwang said the hearing will take place by March 26, Lee said it could be extended past that date.

“This is a normal kind of thing,” she said.

Lee said she does not have additional comments except to express her support for Fisher as she did in previous court appearances.

“We support Scott 100%,” Lee said. “We support him and he has family support.”

Fisher pleaded not guilty to murder charges at his arraignment on Dec. 15. He’s accused of stabbing Wong, a 27-year-old product designer at Plaid, with a knife on Nov. 30 at their Presidio Heights apartment, according to the charges filed against him.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office filed a detention motion, obtained by SFGATE, at his arraignment, requesting that Fisher remain in custody without bail.

San Francisco police discovered Wong’s body when conducting a welfare check. Shortly before she was killed, Wong told a friend that she was afraid of Fisher and decided to spend the night of Nov. 29 away from the apartment on the 3200 block of Clay Street, the district attorney’s office said in its motion to detain Fisher.

Wong also told a friend that Fisher lunged at her while she was showering on Nov. 28 and that he shook her in her sleep that night, waking her up, the motion said. The DA’s office said Wong spent the next night away from the apartment and dropped Fisher off at a relative’s house that same evening.

The two returned to the apartment on Nov. 30 after Wong picked up Fisher, the DA said. Surveillance footage shows the two walking into their apartment in the morning and only Fisher walking out around noon, according to the detention motion.

Wong’s Apple Watch did not show any movement from noon until police found her body in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds, the DA said.
Officers said they conducted the check after a friend reported Wong wasn’t responding to calls or text messages.

Fisher was arrested in Concord on Dec. 7 and booked into San Francisco County Jail. When he was arrested, police took his shoes, which appeared to have dried blood on the left sole, the detention motion states. Officials said the shoes looked like the same shoes that Fisher wore on surveillance video.

Fisher worked at SF-based software company Databricks until October 2023, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also graduated from UC Berkeley in 2017 with an economics degree, Adam Ratliff, a spokesperson for the university, told SFGATE.
