Massive potential Ipswich Town, Leif Davis blow emerges as Leeds United hope for Tuesday collapse

Leeds United were battered 4-0 by QPR on Friday night to see their chances of automatic promotion take a huge hit, but Ipswich Town are yet to take full advantage.

Just one game remains for Leeds in the regular season, but many fans have justifiably come to terms with the idea of the campaign extending via the playoffs.

That comes after a 4-0 defeat away at bottom-half QPR on Friday night, that left Ipswich Town with their two games to catch up and snatch second place with only this weekend left to play.

Hull City 3-3 Ipswich Town: Tractor Boys not second yet

A potential glimmer of hope for Leeds came in the fact that Ipswich’s two games to catch up to 45 played were against sides more than capable of getting results against them.

The first being a trip to the MKM Stadium to take on Liam Rosenior’s Hull City side, who needed to win their remaining games by a considerable margin to stand any chance of the top six.

A 3-3 draw means that Leeds stay in the top two for now, with Kieran McKenna’s side facing another tough away trip on Tuesday night, taking on Coventry City.

Leif Davis injury blow: McKenna provides worrying update

A setback for the Tractor Boys came in the fact that Leif Davis was forced off with an ankle issue in the second half.

Davis of course has arguably been Ipswich’s best player and most important outlet this season with a whopping 18 assists in the league, and McKenna wasn’t able to provide a positive update after he injured his ankle, via the East Anglian Daily Times:

“He’s limping pretty heavily. He rolled his ankle.

“It’s an issue he’s had before. We’ll have to assess him over the next few days.”

Davis out could be massive for Leeds

It’s very clear when you watch Ipswich play how important Davis’ delivery is from the left flank, with 20 of their league goals this season coming directly from him.

Having him out for tomorrow and potentially even the weekend could hamper their chances of performing at their best.

We’ve been seriously poor, so expecting a win against Southampton is asking a lot, but to know Davis might be absent is a boost for sure.
