Mike Myers Debuts Gray Buzzcut in Rare Public Outing

Mike Myers is back in the spotlight — with a brand new look.

The Austin Powers actor appeared at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Saturday, April 27, marking his first public outing in over a year.

Myers, 60, debuted a new buzzcut that embraced his grays. He also sported a short gray beard. The look is a departure from the longer, brown hair he’s had for most of his career.

The actor opted for a simple black tuxedo with a black bowtie.

At the ceremony, which honored Nicole Kidman as the 2024 award recipient, Myers appeared onstage in a black cape and mask. As he approached the podium, he took off the disguise and addressed the crowd with a speech.

The comedian has not made a public appearance since October 2022 when he was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His last film role was as Paul Canterbury in 2022’s crime comedy/thriller Amsterdam, which also starred Christian Bale and Margot Robbie.

In May 2022, Myers said he would be “thrilled” to reprise his titular role of Shrek in the animated film franchise.

In an interview with GQ, he reflected on the iconic role, saying that he loved the idea of “taking a fairytale and turning it on its head.”

“Having it be that all the traditional bad guys are good guys and all the traditional good guys are bad guys,” he continued.

Myers added that his character’s arc from a “self-loathing ogre to a self accepting ogre” was “meaningful” to him.

“I loved playing Shrek,” he concluded. “If I had to do one Shrek a year I’d be thrilled.”

There hasn’t been official word of another Shrek release, but rumors about a fourth installment of Austin Powers have been circulated.

“I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist,” he said on “The Jess Cagle Show” in May 2022.

When Cagle told Myers that his response felt “like a confirmation,” the actor quipped, “It was a non-confirmed, confirmation confirmation.”

Myers is presumably enjoying his time off-camera with his wife Kelly Tisdale, 47, and their three children, Spike, 12, Sunday, 10, and Paulina, 8.

At the New York City premiere of Amsterdam in September 2022, the Saturday Night Live alum told PEOPLE that his family is “remarkably unexcited about anything” he does.

“You know, which is great,” he added.
