There will be a toss-up between Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant for the vice captain in T20 World Cup.
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India will announce the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be played in USA and West Indies from June 02 where hosts USA will face Canada.
India will play their first World Cup match against Ireland, starting at 8 PM IST, and the men in blue will play all of their matches in the USA.
India wicket keeper batter Rishabh Pant who was doubtful weather he will play in the ongoing Indian Premier League or not citing injuries has now been the contender for Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the marquee event in the USA and West Indies.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, there will be a toss-up between Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant for the vice captain in T20 World Cup.
“Among other selection issues, the top order will consist of skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. The middle order will feature Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. One or both of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh will be there, along with either Sanju Samson or KL Rahul” added the report.
The report further stated that IPL highest wicket-taker Yuzvendra Chahal will miss out in India’s World Cup squad. Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s specialist spinner and Axar Patel may edge out Ravi Bishnoi for the other spinner’s position.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack along with Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh and there are chances that Sandeep Sharma who is performing well in IPL will also be in the scheme of things for the tournament.
