OpenAI’S ChatGPT: Meta gets ready to take another shot at ChatGPT with a new tool

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has certainly ushered in a new era of artificial intelligence (AI). While AI was always operationally effective in the background, it took ChatGPT to show its impact on consumer-facing activities. Coding was one area where generative AI took a lot of people by surprise because it was not previously thought to be possible for AI to generate code that was both correct and readable. Meta is now readying an AI tool that will focus on coding, which has the potential to change the way that software is developed as it will be an open-source model.
According to a report by The Information, the model has been internally named Code Llama and is expected to arrive very soon. Like most AI models developed by Meta, this will be open-source as well.
OpenAI already has ChatGPT and another coding-specific tool called Codex. Microsoft also has Github Copilot, which is a paid service meant for coders.
Open source: Meta’s approach to AI
OpenAI currently has the most top of the mind recall when it comes to generative AI. What it does is that it gives independent developers and firms access to them. The development of a tool that can generate code will give it a competitive edge and emerge as a serious challenger to OpenAI.
Meta has been making most of its large language models open source. Last month, Meta and Microsoft announced support for the Llama 2 family of large language models (LLMs) on Azure and Windows. Llama 2 is designed to enable developers and organisations to build generative AI-powered tools and experiences. “Meta and Microsoft share a commitment to democratising AI and its benefits and we are excited that Meta is taking an open approach with Llama 2,” Microsoft had said in a blog post.
