PlayStation Portal UK stock – More bad news for customers looking to make a purchase | Gaming | Entertainment

Sony’s PlayStation Portal device was arguably a surprise hit when it launched back in late 2023. Despite some pre-release skepticism from fans (and perhaps even a little disappointment that it wasn’t a true PlayStation Vita successor), the PlayStation Portal has basically been sold out since release. Indeed, whenever the handheld is back in stock, units tend to sell out instantly. It’s reminiscent of the PS5 and its own stock issues from 2020. The bad news for fans is that the PlayStation Portal stock shortages look set to continue, at least for the foreseeable future.

That’s according to PlayStation VP of product management Hiromi Wakai, who recently told GameFile that demand for the device shows no sign of slowing down.

“Although we don’t have any numbers to share, the demand has continued to exceed our expectations,” Wakai said.

While the comments suggest that stock issues will likely continue, Wakai has assured fans that more units are on the way.

“The production is running smoothly and we’ve been shipping more units consistently,” Wakai continues.

“We will continue to bring more units to the market, so please stay tuned.”

The PlayStation Portal is a handheld device capable of playing PS5 games via streaming.

While this is something that can also be achieved using a smartphone with the PlayStation app, the Portal shares more in common with the PS5 console.

Indeed, the PlayStation Portal’s 8-inch LCD screen sits between what is essentially a DualSense controller.

This means the PlayStation Portal features the same immersive controls as the PS5, including advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
