Premier League: Live score, team news and latest updates as Cole Palmer scores twice deep into stoppage-time to earn Chelsea 4-3 win in THRILLER against Man United
We’re wrapping up our rolling coverage for this evening.
Thanks for joining me for such a crazy game. That will live long in the memory.
We’ll have all the reaction and fallout across the website, so stay tuned there.
What a special Premier League season this is!
Penny for his thoughts
I wonder what must be going through Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s head tonight.
United careered from agony to ecstasy and then back again over a turbulent 100 minutes of football with their part-owner in the crowd.
Surely he can’t be particularly optimistic about the style Erik ten Hag is currently serving up? I’m sure Sir Dave Brailsford feels the same.
It’s set to be an almighty summer shake-up for United…
United’s creaking defence
This is an absolutely staggering statistic.
You really do have to fear for Erik ten Hag’s job.
United just cannot stop conceding sloppy goals.
‘It should be a turning point’
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to reporters…
‘It was amazing. We deserved it, we were the better team.
‘It was a fair result. If you see everything we started the game in control and we made a mistake. We suffered an emotional impact.
‘In the second half again we controlled the game again. We suffered in transition. In these situations we should have been better.
‘In the end, it was a fair result. For the connection with the fans it is an important day. It should be a turning point.’
Ten Hag on United’s top four hopes
I don’t know [if the top four is gone]. I have to see again the ranking. Points will be more expensive. It’s very disappointing we’re doing this and making the wrong decisions. We gave away a game we should have won.

Player ratings
Cole Palmer ran the show for Chelsea tonight but Alejandro Garnacho and Antony were also standouts despite Man United’s late defeat.
Who scored just a three out of 10 for the hosts, though?
You can find out below via Mail+. It’s worth a look.
No prizes for guessing who got the highest rating…
Ten Hag: ‘We made bad decisions’
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to TNT Sports…
‘Yes, we started poor, kicking the ball away and defending poorly.
‘But you saw we were dominating the game and it was brilliant how we played. We deserved to win the game.
‘But you cannot give it away like we did and we have to manage this game better.
‘It is a team performance, you can point to one of the players but it is about team performance.
‘When it gets chaotic you have to deal with it as a team and we made the wrong decisions and we didn’t help out as a team.
‘Out of possession, we made bad decisions – a lack of concentration.
‘Also, I think lucky at the end with the penalty situation, questionable and very soft but we have to do better.’
Last-gasp drama
United were leading the game at 99:17, the latest a side has ever led in a Premier League game they then went on to lose.
‘We gave it away’
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, speaking to TNT Sports…
‘We had the game in our hands and we gave it away.
‘It’s frustrating. It’s difficult to take. We had good control in the last few minutes. But they got two chances and scored two goals.
‘From the corner we have to be much quicker. We knew beforehand they take corners and throw-ins quickly.
‘In the last games we’ve conceded too many shots. It’s about defending your box.’
United sensational and shambolic
In this strangest of seasons for Manchester United, Erik ten Hag’s side have swung between shambolic and sensational, and everything else in between, writes Mail Sport’s CHRIS WHEELER.
You can read his full reaction piece via Mail+ below.
If you haven’t signed up yet – why not?
Enjoy that, Poch?
Those were some serious scenes at full-time. The roof came off.
Ten Hag reaction
Erik ten Hag believes United deserved to win the game.
Feel free to react to that in the comments.
It’s a controversial one. The defending at the end… goodness me.
‘There is nothing better’
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, speaking to TNT Sports…
‘I don’t know [how Chelsea came back]!
‘2-0 up and like I said last week we had silly mistakes. When the eight minutes got added on it gave us a lift – madness.
‘We need to try to win as many games as possible. To win like that, there is nothing better.
‘We thought when we scored the second goal the fans lifted us and I saw the gaffer say there were two minutes left and thankfully I scored.’
Chelsea 4-3 Man United
In the last two games alone, United have conceded goals in 90+9, 90+10 and 90+11. Surely that’s some kind of record.
Chelsea 4-3 Man United
How long did it take Cole Palmer to turn this game around, you ask?
FULL TIME
Manchester United have just lost a game they were leading up until the 99th minute. They can kiss the Champions League goodbye.
As for Chelsea… wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
They’re just one point off a potential European spot now.
An incredible turnaround from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
GOAL! Chelsea 4-3 Man United (Palmer, 90+11)
WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT? WHAT HAVE WE JUST SEEN?
United went for a winner right from the kick-off but left themselves exposed at the back, with the hosts throwing bodies forward.
Palmer collected the ball on the edge of the area and his strike deflected off the chest of McTominay and into the net!
Absolute pandemonium at Stamford Bridge.
What were United thinking?
GOAL! Chelsea 3-3 Man United (Palmer, 90+10)
There’s the last-gasp equaliser!
A fitting end to an absolutely bonkers game.
PENALTY!
CHELSEA HAVE A SPOT-KICK!
VAR are checking. It looked a stonewaller.
Dalot brought down Madueke inside the box.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Time is rapidly running out for Chelsea. Into the final few minutes now.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Breather for United. Fernandes was chopped down inside Chelsea’s half after a sustained period of possession for those in red.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
There’s the confirmation. Eight minutes were displayed on the board.
Strap in, everyone! Plenty of twists still left in this one.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Madueke is on for Chelsea, replacing Gallagher.
I think we’ll have EIGHT added minutes. Let’s find out.
In his first contribution since coming on, Madueke cut inside onto his left but got away a weak shot. Onana gathered with ease.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
United broke away after Mount stepped in and won the ball in midfield, but Antony dawdled for too long on the edge of the box.
It’s just not sticking for the visitors at the moment.
I can smell another goal coming.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mount has been jeered by the home crowd.
He’s replaced Garnacho, who was excellent down that left side.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Here we go. Mount is about to come on against his former club.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
United finally found a brief moment of respite but Fernandes’ attempted ball down the flank for Garnacho was overhit.
The visitors can’t escape from their half at the moment.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
This has been a better spell from Chelsea.
Kambwala went into a crunching tackle on Jackson inside the box and from the resulting corner, Gilchrist headed off target.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Both sides have made changes.
Casemiro has been hooked, with McTominay on.
Gilchrist and Chalobah are on for Chelsea. Disasi and Gusto, the two men who made up the left side of defence, are off.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Chelsea won a free kick in a dangerous position right on the edge of the box, over to the right, after Maguire fouled Jackson.
Palmer tried his luck with a powerful effort and Onana, who backpedalled slightly punched over the crossbar.
That was an awkward, fizzing shot.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
Mauricio Pochettino has responded to that hammer blow.
Sterling and Chukwuemeka are on.
Caicedo and Mudryk have made way.
Chelsea 2-3 Man United
United are hunting for another goal.
This time, Garnacho surged down the left and crossed in the direction of Rashford, who hadn’t made the run to the far post.
Both sides look so dangerous on the counter.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-3 Man United (Garnacho, 67)
WOWWWWWWW! UNITED HAVE TURNED IT AROUND!
The pass from Antony to set Garnacho up… chef’s kiss.
Antony was released down the right and after glancing up, he pinged a perfect cross toward Garnacho with the outside of his left boot.
Petrovic raced out by a deft header dropped into the back of the net.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
This is some injury crisis for United!
Kambwala is indeed on but in place of Evans. He must have picked up an issue. How many fit senior backs do United have now? One?
Rashford replaced Hojlund in the other change.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Brilliant work from Antony, who took on Cucurella before applying the afterburners, surging to the byline and firing a low ball in.
No one in red had read his mind, though!
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
It’s heating up on the touchline, too!
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Kambwala and Rashford are stripped and readied for United.
Wan-Bissaka went down after a clash of heads but is back on.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Palmer cut in and shot… but Onana saved!
Seconds after Casemiro steered a header off target, Chelsea came forward on the attack and the forward danced onto his left.
There was plenty of power behind the effort but it was a comfortable stop, even if Onana did spring up like a cat.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Disasi gives and takes away – sometimes in the same move.
The defender didn’t know what to do with a poor ball from Caicedo and found himself racing to catch up with Hojlund inside the box.
Hojlund shaped to shoot but Disasi did very well to put him off.
This half… ridiculous. Whirlwind v whirlwind.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Over the top from Fernandes after a dangerous United break!
He really had to do better there, especially with team-mates in support.
It was a let-off for Chelsea in the end.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
SAVE! Jackson has stung the palms of Onana.
The forward was slotted in on the right and his strike had plenty of venom. United then scrambled the rebound away.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
HUGE BLOCK! Heroic from Evans.
This game is flowing from end to end, from transition to transition, and one such breakaway ended with Fernandez being played in.
He looked set to let fly but the veteran threw his body in the way.
The pace of this is ridiculous. Neither side can keep the ball.
FT: Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United
The whistle goes at Anfield! Liverpool are TOP!
Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United
Jamie Carragher’s a happy man tonight.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
The second half has begun how the first ended – with chances.
United appealed for two penalties shortly after the restart, but neither looked convincing despite Fernandes’ appeals.
Maguire then ended an attack by crashing wide of the target.
Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United
Into seven added minutes at Anfield. It’s a procession now.
SECOND HALF – Chelsea 2-2 Man United
PEEP! We’re off again at Stamford Bridge!
GOAL! Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield United (Gakpo, 89)
THAT. WILL. DO. IT. Liverpool are back on top of the Premier League.
Robertson spotted the run of substitute Gakpo and his delivery was inch-perfect, allowing the forward to glance a header home.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Evans will emerge for the second half for United.
That’s another injury blow for Erik ten Hag, with Varane forced off.
We’ll get more info on that after the final whistle.
Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United
WOODWORK! Mac Allister has clattered the crossbar!
The playmaker absolutely thumped a free-kick at goal but was denied only by the frame, with Grbic beaten all ends up.
That would have wrapped up the points.
WATCH: Mac Allister’s beauty
GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United (Mac Allister, 77)
MY WORD! It’s a screamer from Mac Allister!
That’s a MASSIVE goal in this pulsating title race.
A loose ball just outside the area fell to the midfielder and with a swish of his laces, he absolutely clattered beyond Grbic.
Liverpool are back on top!
HT: Chelsea 2-2 Man United
A breathless half in the capital sees the two sides locked level.
Chelsea were cruising on Easy Street before a Caicedo error allowed Garnacho to smuggle in and slot into the far corner.
Shortly after, Fernandes nodded home the equaliser.
What a 45 minutes of football.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Palmer was involved again (of course) and he found Gallagher on the left of the area. His strike cannoned off the near post.
Onana was absolutely rooted for that one.
Liverpool 1-1 Sheffield United
Another double change for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp is not happy.
Gomez and Szboszlai have been withdrawn.
Liverpool 1-1 Sheffield United
Frustration is beginning to build on Merseyside.
As it stands, Liverpool would be second, behind Arsenal on goal difference. Manchester City are third on 67 points.
Sheffield United are standing pretty firm at the back, although they were rescued by Grbic’s fine save from Van Dijk’s header.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
We’ll have five minutes additional time at Stamford Bridge.
There are plenty more goals in this. Mark my words.
Chelsea 2-2 Man United
Can we all just calm down, please? My fingers are on fire.
Varane may well have an issue here.
Evans has been sent to warm up for United.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-2 Man United (Fernandes, 39)
Dalot lofted in a ball toward the far post and Fernandes, after getting a shout from Hojlund, guided a brilliant header into the corner.
All of a sudden, that away end is alive again.
Liverpool 1-1 Sheffield United
Double change for the Reds. Salah is off. Hmmmm.
Robertson and Elliott have replaced the superstar and Gravenberch.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Sheffield United (Bradley OG, 59)
WOW! Just as I was typing the Man United goal update, Sheffield United have gone and found the net as well! It’s all happening.
McAtee whipped a superb cross to the far post and Brereton Diaz and Hamer both arrived. The latter then connected.
The ball spun off Bradley, however, and Kelleher was helpless.
It was a bit of luck but the visitors won’t care one jot. They’re level!
GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 Man United (Garnacho, 34)
Mistake from Caicedo and Garnacho has capitalised!
That’s an awful, awful error just outside his own box. What was he thinking? He played a square ball instead of rolling back to Petrovic.
That allowed Garnacho to be slotted through and the youngster slotted into the far corner after giving the goalkeeper the eyes.
Out of nowhere, United are right back in this.
Chelsea 2-0 Man United
Gusto has gone into the book for a challenge on Garnacho.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Half a chance for Sheffield United to test that Liverpool backline.
The visitors were awarded a free-kick after Konate clattered into Brereton Diaz and Hamer stepped over the dead ball.
He then tried his luck but Kelleher saved at the near post.
Chelsea 2-0 Man United
Mudryk… oooof, into the side netting!
Jackson powered right through the heart of United on the counter and fed Mudryk to his left, with Maguire scrambling.
In the end, the defender stood his ground and Mudryk slammed wide.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Salah hasn’t quite found his shooting boots this evening.
He let fly from the edge of the box but Grbic collected easily.
Liverpool need a second to truly kill the game off.
Chelsea 2-0 Man United
Disasi really should score! United look horrific.
Palmer had Dalot on toast twice and was then fouled by the full back.
Gallagher took the free-kick and clipped it to the far post, where Disasi shrugged off his marker but guided his header wide.
SECOND HALF – Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
The action has restarted at Anfield.
Chelsea 2-0 Man United
United are all at sea at the back. My word.
Palmer ran straight through the visitors’ midfield and tried a shot which deflected wide. He’s absolutely running the show.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Man United (Palmer, 19)
As cool as you like from 12 yards! He just doesn’t miss from the spot.
Palmer has been getting pelters from the United end all half and made sure he responded to them as he wheeled away to celebrate.
Onana went the wrong way.
PENALTY!
Chelsea have a spot-kick! What a clumsy foul from Antony.
The winger was asking for that. He was the wrong side after failing to track Cucurella’s run and chopped him down with a dangling leg.
After a very brief check, the penalty was rubber-stamped.
Chelsea 1-0 Man United
Over the top from Cucurella! That was ambitious.
Maguire’s attempted clearance was poor and back the ball came, with Cucurella teed up on the edge of the area on his right foot.
WATCH: Gallagher’s opener
Chelsea 1-0 Man United
United have certainly settled into the contest now.
Antony cut in on his left (shock, horror) but his effort was held easily by Petrovic. At the other end, Mudryk bent wide after a deflection.
Garnacho has also been given a glimpse at goal but his venomous strike from a matter of yards out was blocked.
This game is flowing very nicely indeed.
HT: Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Job done so far for the table toppers.
It’s been smooth sailing for most of the half but they have also been bailed out by a couple of very good stops from Kelleher.
Nunez’s goal, which came from a poor mistake from Grbic, is the difference between the two sides on Merseyside.
GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Man United (Gallagher, 4)
First blood for the hosts! What a start!
United lost the ball cheaply in midfield and Gusto’s cross deflected out off Varane before landing kindly at Gallagher’s feet.
The midfielder lashed toward goal with a fine first-time shot that beat Onana. A nightmare opening few minutes for the visitors.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Big save from Kelleher on the stroke of half-time!
Sheffield United bookended the half with two very good chances.
This time, Bogle broke through but forced Kelleher into a strong save.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Lots of patient possession for Liverpool as they cruise into the break.
Oh, hang on! I almost spoke too soon.
Diaz rifled an effort wide of the far post with Grbic troubled.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
There will be four added minutes to round off the half.
Ahmedhodzic got in behind and stabbed over, but he was offside.
KICK OFF! Chelsea v Man United
We’re also underway at Stamford Bridge!
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Szboszlai loves a long-ranger. Not sure Grbic enjoyed it so much.
The midfielder cracked an effort at goal from distance and got plenty of power behind it, forcing the keeper to palm over the crossbar.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
A weak effort from Gravenberch was scooped up by Grbic.
Diaz’s brilliant feet started the move and got the crowd on their feet, before the hosts worked the ball into midfield.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Ten efforts at goal now for Liverpool, who are in complete control.
I think they’ve got more in the tank, too.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Liverpool are keeping the ball well and probing for gaps.
This just feels like a matter of time before 2-0.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
CLOSE! What an effort from Mac Allister.
He took aim from the edge of the area and bent a wonderful strike just wide. That missed the target by a matter of inches.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Half an hour on the clock and Liverpool lead by a goal.
It was a poor opening five minutes or so and Sheffield United really should have scored, but the hosts responded magnificently.
They’re pressing relentlessly and earned their reward after Nunez charged down Grbic’s kick. You can watch that yourself below.
If you support the Blades, you’re excused. Don’t worry.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
For the first time in quite a while, the visitors broke up an attack and countered, with Brereton Diaz drawing a cheap foul from Konate.
The ball in was poor, though, and Kelleher claimed with ease.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Wide from Gomez. His wait for his first goal goes on.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Nunez should score! Sheffield United are all at sea at the back.
Diaz and the frontman combined sharply in and around the box, allowing the latter to wriggle into some room and look to shoot.
He was surrounded by defenders but still managed to squeeze a strike away, with Grbic holding on down the centre of his goal.
Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United
Just over the top from Bradley. Liverpool smell blood.
Anfield urged him to shoot and he did just that after being found by Mac Allister on the edge of the box, over to the right.
He cut across his strike, however, and thrashed it over the crossbar.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United (Nunez, 17)
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. It’s a howler from the keeper. When your team are staring down the barrel of relegation, you can’t be doing that.
Grbic looked to hack the ball downfield but took too long, allowing Nunez to pile the pressure on and charge down the attempted kick.
To Chris Wilder’s horror, the ball then deflected back and into the net.
It’s a strange way to go ahead but Liverpool won’t mind one bit!
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
Ooooof, that would have been trademark Mo Salah.
The superstar picked up the ball on the right of the box and looked to guide one into the far corner with the inside of his boot.
It had plenty of power but lacked direction, with Grbic untroubled.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
Involved in the next attack was, yep, you guessed it, Conor Bradley!
That time, the full back flashed a wicked ball across the face of goal. Luis Diaz slid in but just couldn’t make contact.
Liverpool are awake now and are turning the screw.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
Conor Bradley… what a gem.
He steamed away down the right before driving into the box and looking to find a team-mate. No one in red was ready, though!
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
Nunez then nodded wide from the following corner.
He craned every sinew of his neck to meet Gomez’s hanging cross but just couldn’t get enough on it to divert the header at goal.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
Diaz did very well out on the left before play was shifted to Nunez.
A cross then came into the box and fell kindly for Salah on the far side, with the forward then looking to lob a deft effort into the corner.
Grbic backpedalled to palm over the crossbar.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
A slight pause in the game after Gravenberch and Souza clashed heads. Both are thankfully on their feet and OK to continue.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
The resulting corner was whacked into the box toward Brereton Diaz, who couldn’t get an effort on goal under pressure from Bradley.
A sloppy opening couple of minutes from Liverpool.
Liverpool 0-0 Sheffield United
BIG SAVE! The visitors almost had the perfect start!
A long throw from Robinson caused chaos inside Liverpool’s box and McAtee, from a few yards out, forced a superb stop from Kelleher.
The angle was tight but the goalkeeper made himself look very big. In the end, his gangling legs bailed out the title chasers.
KICK OFF! Liverpool v Sheffield United
Here we go! It’s absolutely bucketing it down on Merseyside.
Teams are out!
Here come the players at Anfield!
It’s almost go-time!
The Anfield atmosphere is ramping up. KO is in less than 10 minutes.
Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones are both in contention tonight.
Jones is in full training while Robertson has unsurprisingly been hailed as ‘very important’ by Jurgen Klopp ahead of this game.
Wataru Endo picked up a knock during the win against Brighton and Klopp admitted ‘we will see what we can do with him’.
Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson remain sidelined.
Klopp: We must be professional
Jurgen Klopp is keen for Liverpool to remain level-headed despite their title challenge but wants to see the ‘best version’ of his side.
Speaking to reporters, he said: ‘After we lost at Arsenal, we were not the favourites after that game, maybe rightly so.
‘I don’t know and I don’t care.
‘One of the most important things to get through this period is just to ignore the outside mess because that goes up and down.
‘We have to be professional. We have to be emotional in the right way.
‘We have to be the best version of ourselves, try to play the best football we can and then see what the outcome is.’
Make no mistake, this is a huge evening for the Reds…
Good evening!
Hello, all! I hope everyone’s strapped in and ready for another dramatic night of Premier League action. I know I am!
This season’s title race has turned into an absolute classic. We’ve got a three-way fight on our hands, ladies and gentlemen.
Tonight, it’s over to Liverpool. A victory against Sheffield United would send them back to the top, above Arsenal and Manchester City.
They’re the title favourites and this *should* be comfortable for them.
Then, a little later, it’s over to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea will host a crisis-hit Manchester United, whose top-five hopes are rapidly fading.
Erik ten Hag needs a miracle to qualify for the Champions League – and potentially save his job – and it needs to start today in the capital.
We’ll have all the team news and updates right here.
