Sam’s Club reopens after bomb threat

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -Sam’s Club in South Point, Ohio has reopened following a bomb threat earlier on Friday.

The Sam’s Club located at 432 Walmart Way received a bomb threat by telephone around 11:25 a.m., according to the Lawrence County Ohio Sheriff’s Office.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Fayette Township Fire Department, assisted in evacuating the building.

Officials called the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Columbus, Ohio Fire Department’s bomb detecting canines to assist in sweeping the wholesale club for explosive devices.

Detectives also contacted the FBI and they began the process of tracking down the phone number of the caller and where it originated from.

Law enforcement, fire personnel, and canines performed an extensive search of the building and no explosive devices were located, the sheriff’s office reported.

Sam’s Club was closed for several hours but has now reopened.

The sheriff expects the store to be closed for at least another three hours.
