Sid Seixeiro calls Leafs ‘children,’ taking a break from Game 5

While there are a lot of die-hard Maple Leafs fans who want to believe Toronto will make a miraculous comeback and take the Boston Bruins down in Game 7, Sid Seixeiro isn’t one of them.

The former star Tim & Sid star-turned-Breakfast Television host unleashed a rant that many Leafs supporters can appreciate, breaking down the team’s Game 4 loss over the weekend, putting Toronto in yet another must-win situation.

Sexieiro’s frustrations included coach Sheldon Keefe’s late-game choices, captain John Tavares’ overall performance and the bench bickering of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander, which was caught on camera and naturally went viral.

“I didn’t see a team that wanted to be there Saturday night,” Sexieiro told his co-hosts Devo Brown, Meredith Shaw and Caryn Ceolin.

“I saw a coach throwing out a fourth line with two minutes to go, down two goals. He’s lost his mind,” he said.

“I see a captain that’s putting in the worst performance of any Leafs captain in my lifetime. I said it,” Sexieiro added. “He gets a free ride from everyone else in this market.”

And of the in-fighting between the trio on the bench, he described it as “embarrassing.”

“These are children,” he ranted. “I think this is one of the most important moments of the last eight years with this organization. This should’ve happened in year two.”

Former Leafs captain Rick Vaive wrote in the Toronto Sun that the arguing between Matthews, Marner and Nylander shouldn’t have happened so publicly, while Leafs columnist Lance Hornby opined that it was “the first visible crack in the Core Four forwards’ tortured history of great regular seasons and playoff flops.”

Can the Leafs rebound after Saturday’s disastrous Game 4 loss? Well, count Sexieiro out.

“I’m going to be honest, I’m not watching that hockey game tomorrow night,” he told his co-hosts.

“I’m taking a breath. I’m not putting on Sportsnet, I’m not putting on CBC for one night… I feel as a consumer, that I’m being taken for granted.”

Sexieiro also wagered that he isn’t the only one who’s going to be skipping the game.

“If you think I’m the only one who’s gonna take a pass on that hockey game tomorrow night, you’re drunk,” he declared.

“God bless anyone who’s standing outside Scotiabank Arena tomorrow night, in support of what is a very weird hockey team right now.”

Sexieiro called out the team and Keefe on X the day after the loss, commenting, “I can name 10 people, at least, both on and off the ice that should not be with the Toronto Maple Leafs next season.”

He continued: “Sheldon Keefe is near the top of the list. These postgame comments last night, on their own, are a fireable offense…”

That said, if the Leafs do prolong their tenure in the playoffs, Sexieiro admitted he could be convinced to watch Games 6-7.

“They get to Thursday, I’ll watch that,” he said. “They get to Saturday, maybe I’ll watch that.”
