Tech companies slash hundreds of Bay Area jobs as layoffs widen

SANTA CLARA — Fresh waves of layoffs have battered the Bay Area job market after several tech companies revealed plans to slash well over 400 more jobs in the nine-county region, official state documents show.

TTM Technologies, Clari, Wolfspeed, BlackLine Systems and Robinhood Markets are the latest high-tech companies to disclose their decisions to eliminate jobs in the Bay Area, according to new WARN notices filed with the state Employment Development Department.

Here are the details of the most recent tech industry layoffs affecting workers in the Bay Area, according to the WARN letters sent to the EDD:

— TTM Technologies, a printed circuit board maker, is cutting 240 jobs in Santa Clara.

— Clari, a software company, is chopping 139 jobs in Sunnyvale.

— Wolfspeed, a maker of silicon carbide that can be used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems as well as the aerospace and defense industries, is eliminating 50 jobs in Morgan Hill.

— BlackLine Systems, a provider of cloud-based software, is cutting 21 jobs in Pleasanton.

— Robinhood Markets, a financial services tech company, or fintech, is cutting 3 jobs in Menlo Park.

All told, the most recent rounds of layoffs are slated to eliminate 453 jobs in the Bay Area.

During 2022 and so far in 2023, tech companies have revealed plans to eliminate more than 28,300 jobs in the Bay Area. Of these, more than 17,900 job cuts have been disclosed so far in 2023. In 2022, tech companies announced their intentions to cut more than 10,400 jobs in the Bay Area.
