“The Remains of the Antarctic”: Limited Edition Book Available

In February 2023, the Antarctic Climate Expedition (ACE) saw a team of 120 unique individuals—artists, musicians, photographers, writers, activists, policymakers, scientists, politicians and more—embark on a voyage to the world’s southernmost continent. Their mission: increase awareness of the changes that have taken place in the Antarctic as a result of climate change using images, videos, music, paintings, art, science, and educational outreach programs.

One project coming out of that endeavor is the new book The Remains of the Antarctic, a limited edition of which is now available from Australian publisher OceanENvironment Ltd. The 168-page full-color book is produced by Ocean Geographic publisher Michael Aw and includes a foreword by Dr. Sylia Earle, founder of Mission Blue, which served as the principal partner to Ocean Geographic in ACE 2023. In addition to Michael Aw, the principal photographers contributing images to the book include David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes, Michael Aw, Eirik Grønningsæter, Elaine Lim, Nur Tucker, Renee Capozzola, and Lezlie Brooks Johnson.

PRESS RELEASE

The pictures in ‘The Remains of the Antarctic’  will raise awareness and resolve to protect the Antarctic region not only for our survival but also as a source of awe and wonder for future generations.

The Remains of the Antarctic is a newly launched special limited-edition production from the Antarctic Climate Expedition (ACE2023), recently unveiled at the Singapore Sustainability Academy by Esther An of City Developments Limited. This exclusive production is available for online order only through Ocean Geographic. The volume showcases the finest selection curated from over 8,000 submissions captured by 120 expedition members, highlighting Antarctica’s awe-inspiring and delicate wonders.

From majestic glaciers to tenacious wildlife, each image offers a glimpse into the untouched beauty and fragile resilience of Earth’s southernmost region, now imperilled in the time of climate change. The ACE expedition team meticulously documented the region, revealing the stark transformation it has undergone since the days of Shackleton, and in the next decade, it will face more dramatic change.

The Remains of the Antarctic aims to raise awareness and inspire action to preserve the Antarctic region for future generations, ensuring its continued existence as a source of natural wonder and essential biodiversity. This limited edition is a powerful visual narrative of what remains of the Antarctic we have now. What remains of the Antarctic 50 years from now depends on what we do or don’t do. The pictures in this limited edition have the power to educate and inspire everyone to preserve the remains of this magical wilderness and the health of our planet for our future loved ones.

About the Antarctic Climate Expedition ACE 2023

The expedition members comprised of a diverse group of people from across the world; artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, business executives, photographers, activists, policymakers, scientists, politicians and writers. Collectively, this diverse team of Antarctic ambassadors shared a common goal to address the effect of climate change in the southern polar region as a direct threat to the future of human life on our planet.

The narratives of ACE 2023 aim to encourage enlightenment in the way people see and understand the current state of climate change, and hopefully catalyse a much-needed paradigm shift from indifference into urgent action. Through photographs, paintings, science, art installations, videos, music, and educational outreach programs, we hope to connect with people around the world to increase awareness of the changes in the Antarctic that are affected by rising air and sea temperatures.
