Woolworths customers say they found mouse droppings in chip packet after kids started eating

A Queensland mum “felt sick in the tummy” after claiming to have discovered rodent droppings in a Woolworths-bought chips product that her children began eating.

Katie Herd and her husband Alex have lashed the supermarket over the purported discovery in the packet of Mamee Rice Snacks Sticks, bought from a store on the Sunshine Coast on March 23.

“My wife didn’t realise that there was this little chew-hole here,” Alex Herd said in a TikTok video.

“She thought one of our sons had chewed through it, because they were playing with the bag.

“As I’ve got home, I’ve realised bags have been opened and there’s actually rat s*** in here.

Other bags of chips shown by the couple in the video had small holes in them, which Alex claimed were “chew marks”.

The couple said their one and two-year-old boys had been eating the chips before they discovered the evidence of rodent contamination.

“I felt sick in the tummy,” Katie told 7NEWS.

“They’re (aged) two and one. They could have got really sick.

“We just want to make sure this doesn’t happen to anybody else.”

The couple said Woolworths has offered them a $30 gift card as compensation.

In a statement, a Woolworths said the matter is under investigation.

“We completely understand how concerned the customer must feel, and the incident has been raised with our food safety team as well as the manufacturer,” Woolworths told 7NEWS.

“The matter is currently being investigated, and we take all food safety-related issues very seriously.

“We’ll continue to remain in contact with the customer.”
