Patrick Beverley playing through injury is boost for Bucks

On Wednesday, Patrick Beverley announced via his podcast page on social media that he was suffering from a torn ligament in his right wrist. He noted that he could potentially miss multiple months.

However, it would now appear that Beverley is going to play through the injury as the Milwaukee Bucks approach the playoffs.

Beverley’s presence within the Bucks rotation will undoubtedly boost Doc Rivers’ team. He is the Bucks’ best perimeter defender. He helps set the tone for his teammates and is known for his nonstop action on the defensive end of the floor. Between him and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee has two elite defenders to rely on.

Rivers needs all the rearguard help he can get. Milwaukee’s roster is littered with aging veterans, and their declines have been most notable on the defensive side of the floor. The Bucks have struggled to build an identity this season. Nevertheless, Rivers has his team looking organized heading into the playoffs.

Beverley’s willingness to embrace physicality and lock down the perimeter in the halfcourt will ensure opposing guards are met with a stern challenge. However, as he fights through the pain barrier, there will undoubtedly be some questions regarding his ability to consistently play at a high level.

The Bucks acquired Beverley at the Feb. 8 trade deadline. They knew they were getting a high-level defender with elite leadership skills. Playing through the pain barrier is just another way he can set the tone for his teammates. Whether that leadership ends with a championship ring will remain to be seen.
